Strengthening Defense Through Drills: Safeguarding Nuclear Safety
On the afternoon of June 25, the company organized an emergency response drill for radioactive source safety accidents, successfully completing a high-standard, real-scenario special practical test for radiation safety. As one of the key activities of the 2026 "Work Safety Month", this drill was co-planned and implemented by the Safety & Environmental Equipment Department in collaboration with the flaw detection room. It innovatively adopted a segmented drill mode of "theoretical learning + tabletop exercise + on-site actual testing", completely abandoning the formalistic "paper-based exercise". Through the whole-process, real-scenario simulated disposal and equipment verification, it effectively tested and improved the on-site personnel's emergency response capabilities and team collaboration capabilities in handling high-risk emergencies such as gamma-ray source jamming, and firmly built the company's radiation safety protection barrier.
This drill adheres to the principle of "theory first, then practice; warm-up first, then actual combat". In the early stage of the drill, all participants concentrated on special learning in the conference room of the Quality Inspection Department, watched typical accident warning videos of radioactive sources in the industry, and deeply studied the core content of the Regulations on Safety and Protection of Radioactive Isotopes and Ray Devices. Meanwhile, the team carried out tabletop exercises focusing on three extreme emergency scenarios: radioactive source detachment, jamming, and loss. All participants closely followed the emergency process diagram, repeatedly sorted out and refined disposal procedures, division of responsibilities, and response logic. Through systematic pre-learning and simulation exercises, all participants mastered the emergency response specifications proficiently, constructed a clear and complete emergency response thinking system, and laid a solid theoretical foundation for the subsequent on-site practical exercise.
With an order from the commander-in-chief, the drill officially entered the on-site actual testing phase. Participants quickly gathered at the control area of No. 3 Exposure Room in Zone 4 and carried out the practical drill in an orderly manner. Different from the traditional drill mode, this drill avoided the high-risk operation of personnel directly entering high radiation risk areas. Focusing on equipment safety and strengthening scientific and technological security, it conducted special verification on the console and the interlocking system of the protective door, and tested the reliability of the "technical prevention" system for plant radiation protection in a scientific and safe manner.
At the drill site, technicians closely watched the real-time images from four groups of monitoring throughout the process and monitored the dynamic changes of dosimeter data in real time. After the test command was issued, the operator accurately started the emergency stop and interlock test procedure. The equipment warning light immediately flashed alternately in red and blue, and the alarm was triggered simultaneously. The heavy orange lead door quickly closed and was tightly locked under the action of the interlocking device. The staff checked the status of equipment indicator lights, data changes and linkage effects one by one, and confirmed that the full set of safety protection devices such as door-machine interlocking, photoelectric protection, and sound and light alarm responded sensitively, acted accurately, and operated normally, fully verifying the stable performance of the plant's radiation safety equipment.
After the drill, Qian Xinhao, Minister of the Safety & Environmental Equipment Department, conducted a comprehensive review and summary of this activity. He emphasized that the core bottom line of radioactive source safety management lies in the normal and reliable operation of safety equipment. Although this drill did not have the intense scene of emergency rescue, the rigorous, meticulous and realistic practical attitude of all participants is precisely the key to guarding post safety. He required all employees to integrate the pragmatic style of this drill into daily work, abandon the idea of paralysis and slack, regularly verify safety equipment, investigate potential hazards, and ensure that various safety interlocking devices are always in good condition and available at any time.
This emergency drill not only verified the completeness of the company's radioactive source protection facilities, but also further deepened all employees' safety awareness of "technical prevention first, strict defense", allowing everyone to deeply realize that standardized operation and equipment guarantee are the core foundation of work safety. Next, taking the Work Safety Month as an opportunity, the company will continue to promote the normalization of safety drills, refinement of equipment management, and normalization of safety education, so that the safety concept is deeply rooted in every post and runs through every operation, comprehensively building a solid barrier for enterprise work safety.
